verDEsporto explores, through an interdisciplinary and transversal approach, the link between green space and outdoor physical activity and the changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Analyzing the use, needs, habits and values associated with the use of green infrastructure by different population groups in the context of COVID-19, we will try to capture the viability of spaces in support of the principles of citizen science by privileging aspects related to education non-formal, to the socio-cultural significance and its reflection on the use and appropriation of the territory for the construction of more participatory, active and sustainable societies. verDEsporto will observe the spontaneous and unorganized use of space for outdoor physical activities in times of pandemic, analyzing the dimensions and indicators that influence the use of green infrastructure, with the Dom Domingos Jardo Linear Park in Sintra as a case study.

The project is the result of a concerted action in the relationship between public space and sporting activity, with local organizations (União das Freguesias do Cacém and São Marcos and Parish Council of Agualva and Mira Sintra) and International Council of Portuguese-speaking Architects and academics , to expose an important social reality, in a unique historical context.

Goals verDEsporto, supported by the principles of citizen science and co-investigation, aims at transdisciplinary and integrative analysis with the participation of different actors, observing the interaction with decision-making bodies as central agents of strategic thinking, individuals, civil society organization and academia, having as main goals:

Explore the experience, attitudes and motivations of individuals in relation to the use of green spaces for the practice of exercises: what influences their preferences in the use of the space; what favors use or prevents it? Improve the understanding of how the landscape and the urban image contribute to the formation of identities and also to determine social behaviors; Take lessons from the knowledge acquired and prepare them to contribute to the political decisions of sustainability and social equity. The project will make it possible to base recommendations based on territorial policies that include factors of cohesion and complementarity of functions, strengthening the territory in access to resources and their efficient and sustainable use, placing in the first place the collective interest and measures to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19.
