2025-11-03

Researchers from CIDEFES – Research Center for Sport, Physical Education, Exercise and Health (Universidade Lusófona) actively participated in the 48th Technical-Scientific Congress of the Portuguese Association of Swimming Coaches (APTN), held on October 25–26, 2025, in Rio Maior, Portugal.

The event brought together coaches, researchers, and swimming professionals, fostering the exchange of technical and scientific knowledge across various domains of swimming.

Among the presented works, two CIDEFES research studies were awarded first prizes in the “Teaching” category:

🥇 1st Prize – Oral Presentation “Training”
Phase Angle as a Biomarker for Swimming Speed Performance: Association with Body Composition, Swimming Speed, Handgrip Strength, and Training Load Dynamics
Catarina N. Matias, José P. Morgado, Frederico Mendes, Margarida L. Cavaca, Paulo Cunha, Mário C. Espada, Joana F. Reis

This study proposes the phase angle as a potential performance biomarker in swimmers, examining the relationships between physiological parameters, training load, and swimming speed performance.

🥈 2nd Prize – Oral Presentation “Teaching”
Inclusive Competitive Swimming Program: Development and Implementation of the Project ISC – Beyond Handicaps
José P. Morgado, Catarina N. Matias, Luís Gomes, Talita Morais Fernandes, Marriet Matias, Cláudia Pato, Tiago Almeida, Esra Erdem, Konstantinos Paschos, Ivelina Dimitrova, Elif Kayhan
