CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR AWARDING ONE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

A call for applications is open at Universidade Lusófona – CIDEFES for the attribution of one Research Fellowship (BI-COFAC) within the scope of the project “WAVES of Opportunity: Surfing for Employability and Environmental Action (WAVES)”, Grant Agreement number 101245895 – WAVES O – ERASMUS-SPORT-2025, funded under the Erasmus+ Sport programme, with a total funding of €400,000.

Scientific Area

Exercise Physiology, Sport Sciences, Physical Education, Public Health, Social Inclusion through Sport, or related fields.

Admission Requirements

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree, obtained less than 3 years ago, in Exercise Physiology, Sport Sciences, Physical Education, Public Health, or related areas, with demonstrated expertise in research involving sport, youth development, or social inclusion.

Candidates must also demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in international, multi-partner research projects, preferably EU-funded programmes such as Erasmus+ Sport;
  • Experience in the coordination of deliverables, documentation workflows, and internal monitoring systems;
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including NEET youth or socially disadvantaged groups;
  • Familiarity with methodologies for evaluating social, educational, or employability outcomes;
  • Ability to support scientific and operational tasks in research units, including reports, dissemination materials, and structured documentation for project management;
  • Affiliation or eligibility for academic integration at Universidade Lusófona, specifically within research activities developed at CIDEFES.

Preferred Profile

Given the nature of the WAVES project and the responsibilities associated with the fellowship, priority will be given to candidates with:

  • Advanced academic training at PhD level in Exercise Physiology, Sport Sciences, or related fields;
  • Previous involvement in EU-funded projects, particularly Erasmus+ Sport;
  • Research experience related to social inclusion, youth employability, sustainability, or sport-based interventions;
  • Capacity to support scientific coordination tasks, including documentation management, internal monitoring workflows, and preparation of project deliverables.

Work Plan

The fellow will integrate the scientific and operational team at CIDEFES in the WAVES project, supporting research, coordination, and documentation processes related to the scientific component led by Universidade Lusófona.

The work plan includes support to the following activities:

Work Package 2 – Research, Context Analysis and Toolkit Development

  • Support research activities related to the socio-economic analysis of coastal communities;
  • Contribute to the development of methodological tools, templates, and internal documentation for data collection;
  • Support the preparation of project deliverables, including analytical summaries and methodological frameworks.

Work Package 3 – Capacity Building on Eco-Surf Entrepreneurship for NEETs

  • Support the organisation and documentation of training activities, workshops, and capacity-building sessions;
  • Assist in the preparation of pedagogical materials, participant tracking tools, and evaluation templates;
  • Coordinate communication flows between partners involved in training delivery;
  • Support the monitoring of participant engagement and feedback instruments.

Work Package 4 – EU Surf Network, Exchange and Thematic Workshops

  • Assist in the logistical coordination of exchange events, thematic workshops, and network activities;
  • Support the preparation of agendas, minutes, briefing notes, and follow-up documentation;
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing sessions and stakeholder engagement activities;
  • Ensure proper documentation, archiving, and reporting of events and outputs.

Work Package 5 – Impact Evaluation, Reporting and Dissemination

  • Manage documentation flows between partners;
  • Support capacity-building and community engagement activities;
  • Prepare impact instruments, tools, and templates;
  • Draft scientific and technical reports and dissemination materials;
  • Support project coordination and internal monitoring, including meeting logistics, quality assurance processes, deliverable tracking, and alignment between scientific and administrative requirements.

The fellow will also provide scientific and technical support to the UL/CIDEFES team, including the preparation of abstracts, conference materials, scientific publications, workshops, seminars, and dissemination events within the project goals.

Applicable Legislation and Regulations

The fellowship is governed by the Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação — COFAC OS 98/2025 and the Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação — COFAC OS 97/2025.

Place of Work and Scientific Supervision

The work will be carried out at CIDEFES – Centro de Investigação em Desporto, Educação Física, Exercício e Saúde, Universidade Lusófona, under the scientific supervision of Professor Catarina Nunes Matias and Professor José P. Morgado.

Duration of the Fellowship

The fellowship will have an initial duration of 6 months, starting on 1 July 2026, and may be renewed for equal or different periods until the project end date, 31 December 2028, subject to performance and budget availability.

Monthly Maintenance Allowance

The monthly amount of the fellowship is €750.00, paid by bank transfer.

Selection Methods

The selection criteria are:

  • Experience and training based on Curriculum Vitae analysis – 50%
  • Academic degrees and grades – 20%
  • Scientific production in the specific area – 30%

Each criterion will be rated from 0 to 20 points.

This call is open from 30 April 2026 to 14 May 2026.
