Are interviews the only way to do qualitative research? In this dynamic hands-on workshop, Professor Brett Smith will challenge that idea and invite participants to explore a much wider landscape of qualitative methods. Moving beyond the familiar, you’ll engage with creative, narrative, and participatory approaches to data collection — and reflect deeply on what makes qualitative research rigorous, meaningful, and impactful.

The session begins with an interactive presentation introducing contemporary debates about the nature of qualitative research and the principles of methodological quality. Participants will then take part in practical exercises and group discussions designed to apply new perspectives to current or planned projects.
